On Sunday 5th January, New Acropolis, Mumbai centre, organized a guided walking tour through one of South Mumbai’s historical precincts. 27 participants made it for the walk early on a Sunday morning!
The 3 km walk began at the historical Gateway of India, Apollo Bunder. The route wove past historical buildings to Regal circle and then on to Kala Ghoda (the black horse – an area made famous by a horse statue), past the Prince of Wales Museum and concluded at Café Mondegar(an iconic eatery that has made its way into every Mumbai guidebook!).
The walk gave the participants a glimpse of Mumbai’s history, bringing alive some of its most monumental buildings and the context in which they were built. Examples of various styles of architecture that are unique to Mumbai, were pointed out and explained with small anecdotes associated with the structures.
The participants had an opportunity to share their experiences over breakfast and emphasized the importance of living with awareness. All participants received postcards with visuals of Mumbai as keepsakes.
