World Philosophy Day was introduced in 2002 by UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation) with the objective of using the occasion to effect transformation of society through the contribution of Philosophy. As part of celebrations hosted in over 60 New Acropolis member countries around the world, New Acropolis India marked the day with an event titled Philosophy for Living : Seeking Contemporary Solutions from Philosophers in History on November 18, 2021.
Hosted in an interactive theatrical format, an aspiring Philosopher interacted with a panel of great Philosophers from the past on how we could live better in our times. Characters playing Plato, Marcus Aurelius and HP Blavatsky exchanged ideas from their Philosophical teachings. The Philosophers suggested, that one of the ways we can make Philosophy useful is to make it practical and experiential by living it everyday. They shared, that in essence, Philosophy can help us develop individually and collectively as a society, by transforming ourselves slowly but steadily. This can be difficult, but it will provide us with an opportunity to challenge ourselves and grow in the process.
The session saw over 160 participants attend and also get an opportunity to pose their questions to the philosophers who answered with their own simple, lucid examples on how living a philosophical life is an adventure, only if we dare to live it !
