Striving to Live Authentically 1Plato’s Allegory of the cave, though written more than two thousand years ago has continued to fascinate generations of Philosophers searching for wisdom through his writings. New Acropolis Main Centre, hosted an interactive talk titled “Lessons from Plato on Living Authentically” on 7th January, 2022 to extract lessons we could learn from this allegory that are relevant to our times.
Using the allegory as reference, the speaker suggested how the cave maybe our world where we seem to be so influenced by the external pulls of society that we forget our inner voice. The talk exhorted that we need to have the courage to step out of our comfort zones to discover the potential Philosophers within us who have sat shackled and need to be freed to explore the mysteries of life.
A good way to start, is by examining our life and questioning the direction we want to give it. And just like the philosopher who returns to the cave to help his fellow prisoners, maybe we too can share our wisdom and take them along the philosophical path to form a new and better world in which we live authentically .
