“We must all do theatre, to find out who we are and to discover who we could become” – August Boal
On Saturday 15th September 2018, Jehan Manekshaw (The Drama School, Mumbai) took the circle of Friends of New Acropolis and members, through a theatre workshop titled “Unmask Yourself” at New Acropolis (Main Centre).
Through this workshop participants learnt that acting is an exercise in ‘being in the moment’; it is a means of communication, and is not just intellectual, but a portrayal of universal truth. Good acting requires acting truthfully in imaginary circumstances And actors make choices in every moment.
In much the same way, in our lives we are the writers of our own script, and we must take responsibility of our choices. For this we need to recognize who we are, what we want from life, and we must become aware of, and learn to face our challenges. This requires presence; one must surrender and commit to each experience, in order to unlock some learning.
