On 18th September 2021, New Acropolis Culture Circle hosted an online event An Evening of Music with classical singer and flautist, Rasika Shekar. Rasika impressed the audience with her versatility, performing a mix of classical Carnatic music, Sufi, Latin, and Fusion singing and also playing the flute. She began with her own compositions “Departure” – symbolising the various transitions we make in life and “Lalitha” – about the Goddess of all creation.

Rasika transitioned between various genres, from her Latin composition “Uproar”, to Punjabi Folk song “Khedeyaan De Naal”, to the ever-popular “Dama Dum Mast Qalandar” which got the audience joining in. She  also used the opportunity to explain how music essentially carries the culture of the people it originates from,  sharing that her inspiration gets magnified as she  interacts with each culture through its music.

Rasika is trained in Carnatic & Hindustani classical music, while having studied jazz & flamenco music at Berklee College of Music. She has toured with classical musician Ustad Ghulam Ali Khan as a vocalist and has also worked with John McLaughlin and composers Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.
