New Acropolis Culture Circle hosted an event titled Art as a Journey Within with artist Oliva Fraser on 12th December 2021. The session explored painting not merely as a skill, but rather as a language, a means to express beauty.
Olivia shared some of her paintings and the layers of meaning within each talking about the finer points of geometry and how each shape represents an idea, such as a circle denoting sacred and spiritual space. She also explained how her training in Bharatnatyam influenced her art, where her paintings have a rhythmic flow, and often have an almost dance like quality. Olivia used the opportunity to share her journey as an artist starting as a travel painter who was guided to ” look inside” and “to find an essence of things”.
Olivia Fraser moved to India in 1989. She apprenticed with Pichwai artists from Jaipur where she fell in love with the rigour of miniature paintings. Coupled with her deep interest in yoga, she creates paintings that could be considered spiritual road maps to reflect a journey within. Olivia has exhibited all over the world including India, USA, UK, China, Singapore, Italy and Nepal.
