A book must be the axe for the frozen sea inside us – Franz Kafka

On Sunday 29th May 2022, New Acropolis Culture Circle hosted an event, ‘Celebrating Books, a Reading and Investigation’, at the New Acropolis Main Centre in Mumbai. Teachers & members of New Acropolis shared readings from books that have brought meaning to their lives and taught them something of value, to apply practically.

The diverse choice included Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice and Macbeth, the poem ‘Rashmi Rathi’ by Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, one of India’s national poets, ‘Ankor, the last Prince of Atlantis’ by Jorge Angel Livraga the founder and first president of New Acropolis, ‘The Little Prince’ by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, selected poems by Mary Oliver and Philosophy for Living’ by Delia Steinberg Guzman, Honorary President of New Acropolis.

Despite the range of authors and different genres, it was evident that we do have a need to lead an examined, purposeful life and the need to live with respect and harmony with fellow humans and nature. The session was followed by a lively discussion and Q&A session with the speakers.
