reflections on meaning and happinessAcross cultures and philosophies, the search for a deeper, more stable form of happiness has captivated human thought for centuries

New Acropolis main centre hosted a talk titled Reflections on Meaning & Happiness: What really matters in life?  on December 14 2024 to explore how we can cultivate a deeper, more sustained happiness rooted in purpose and meaning, focusing on what truly matters in creating a fulfilling life.

The speaker touched upon how Happiness, is not something to attain but a way of living—an active force to be embraced in every aspect of life.

At the heart of this exploration is the distinction between two perceptions of happiness: one rooted in external achievements, and the other in an inner state of contentment and purpose. The latter, often described as “Eudaemonia”  as per Greek tradition or “Ananda,” according to the Indian tradition offers stability and fulfilment that external circumstances cannot provide. It is about aligning our actions with our true nature, regardless of external validation.

The talk drew from Aristotle’s teaching on how the pursuit of happiness is not about wealth or fame, but about living a life of purpose—a life worthy of honour. True happiness, he believed, is the ultimate goal, a state where one’s life is aligned with its highest purpose. It’s not just about achieving, but about being: living authentically, with meaning and purpose.

The speaker proposed that the question is not just how to find happiness, but how to live in a way that happiness becomes the natural outcome—a life lived in alignment with truth, virtue.
