On Saturday, 23rd May 2020, the Culture Circle of New Acropolis India hosted an online event titled ‘Naad Yatra – A Journey Through Sound’ with exponent of the Hindustani classical tradition called Dhrupad, Mr. Chintan Upadhyay.
A disciple of Maestro Uday Bhavalkar, Chintan explained that Dhrupad literally translates as “verse about the immovable”. Through the performance of a few timeless compositions he illustrated the concepts of Ahat Naad and Anahat Naad; the sound which we can hear, and the “unheard sound” of the universe, which each one can learn to hear by shedding the ego, to become more transparent and receptive.
The importance of the traditional Guru Shishya (master-disciple) relationship to travel the path of music, with love and devotion, was also highlighted.
