New Acropolis Main Centre in Mumbai celebrated World Philosophy day at its Main Centre in Colaba, an event attended by over 80 people. Every year this day, first marked by UNESCO in 2002 is celebrated in more than 50 member countries of International Organisation New Acropolis around the world.
Under the theme “Victory of Light over Darkness,” inspired by the celebration of Diwali later in the month, the event sought to explore how Philosophy can offer practical solutions to live a more meaningful life. The evening started with a Panel discussion on understanding the concept of victory of light over darkness, sharing that darkness is not a tangible entity but rather, merely the absence of light. In a world often overshadowed by challenges and negativity, we can perhaps learn to celebrate the light within each of us through the transformative power of philosophy in our lives which can help us recognise the intrinsic goodness, justice, beauty, and truth that resides within us all.
Through a small group activity, Philosophy in action was heralded as a guiding beacon to help individuals keep their inner light intact while also empowering others to ignite their spark, contributing to a brighter world. Taking inspiration from quotes from the book Philosophy for Living by Delia Steinberg Guzmán, speakers clearly called for philosophy to be more than merely an academic subject, emphasising its application as a way of life not just individually, but a collective responsibility to progress together. Attendees were encouraged to consider the role they play in building a better world for everyone.
The “In-House Troubadours of a New and Better World” provided a musical performance that resonated with the event’s theme, touching hearts and inspiring attendees to embrace the light within and share it with others. This gathering served as a testament to the power of philosophy in promoting positive change and unity in an ever-evolving world.
