On the 20th January 2019, members of New Acropolis (Khar Branch), with a few guests, set off on a cultural excursion to Elephanta, across the Mumbai harbor. The site is home to ancient rock cut cave temples, dedicated to the various manifestations of Lord Shiva. Despite the mainstream historical narrative, HP Blavatsky suggests that the antiquity of the caves perhaps dates to the time of the Pandavas. Through a symbolic investigation of various mythologies, it was an opportunity for members to reflect on their studies at New Acropolis, by recognizing the repeating philosophical themes transmitted through the sculptural masterpieces. The half day trip was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the fraternal spirit, and shaped up to be a memorable experience.
