On 7th November 2020, the  Culture Circle presented by New Acropolis, hosted an engaging one on one talk with Dr. Saamdu Chetri. Dr. Chetri was born in a cowshed in rural Bhutan and went on to complete a PhD in commerce. After working in private and development sectors for 25 years, and the Cabinet of the PM of Bhutan, he then co- founded, instituted & led the Gross National Happiness Centre Bhutan for five years. He has been teaching, consulting and speaking at international and national occasions on Mindfulness and Happiness.

Saamdu as he preferred to be called, began with a short meditation and spoke on creating a culture of happiness and on “Gross National Happiness” or GNH, a term propagated by the King of Bhutan as a measure of the nations happiness index. Saamdu shared that while there are many ways to define happiness it essentially lies within us. He suggested how we may be happy, and live a harmonious life and highlighted the role of our choices and living in the present moment

He also also spoke on the importance of culture and tradition and ended with a rendition of a happiness song.

In 2018, Dr Chetri was also speaker at a Panel Discussion with Dr. Tridip Suhrud on the topic Envisioning a Model Society at “Empowering Real Change: Leadership for a Better World”. View the full recording of the talk here.
