On Sunday, 18th December 2022, New Acropolis Culture Circle hosted a specially curated Walking Tour titled: “The Story of Mumbai -Through the Eyes of a Philosopher”. The event association with Khaki Tours was conducted by Vasant Sanzgiri, member of New Acropolis and an Ambassador of Mumbai with Khaki Tours.

Through the walk, Vasant  took the participants through important timelines in the history of the city narrating the story of its monuments. Various stories of architecture and architects such as George Wittet, a British architect who designed beautiful structures like The Gateway of India and CSMV museum by incorporating Indian architectural features were narrated through the walk.  He also shared anecdotes behind visionaries like Sir Bartel Frere, who envisioned Mumbai as “Urbs Prima in Indus” or a premier commercial city of India and built the GPO, the High Court, and Mumbai University.

Behind this walk was the message on our city being built on strong values of Philanthropy, Beauty and Inspiration by those who wanted to give back to the people of the city through structures which are so much more than mere bricks, stones and walls. Perhaps something that could also inspire us in our times?
