On 22nd September, 2013, 17 volunteers including the Active Ecology Team, students of the WOW (World Of Wisdom) course and their teachers helped to renovate a community school (‘Balwadi’) located in the slums of Cuff Parade, Mumbai. This school for preschoolers is run by Door Step School an NGO providing education to the children of underprivileged families such as pavement dwellers, slum dwellers and construction site families.
During the 2 hour activity, volunteers painted blackboards, metal beams, doors and railings. Some volunteers painted lively motifs on one of the walls intended to create a more colourful study environment for the children.
It was an opportunity for each volunteer experience what it means to work selflessly as a team.
