On 21st of November 2013 over a hundred guests participated in this event celebrating UNESCO’s World Philosophy Day held at “The Blue Frog” Club in Mumbai. The event also commemorated the 2400th anniversary of the establishment of Plato’s “Academy” in Athena. The event was conceptualized by New Acropolis India North and conducted in collaboration with Blue Frog, Mahindra Group and The Indian Express.
The first session was a lecture by Yaron Barzilay, National Director of New Acropolis India – North. Mr. Barzilay spoke of Plato and his teacher Socrates and the relevance of their teaching today. He spoke on the significance of the Academy as a school of philosophy in the classical tradition, where philosophy is followed as a way of life and went on to describe “The allegory of the cave” as explained by Plato, describing various roles in society.
The talk was followed by the screening of the movie ‘The Matrix’ which can be seen in the light of the allegory of the cave.
