On the 26th Sept 2020, the Culture Circle New Acropolis  hosted an online event entitled, “My Journey in Music: an evening with singer Rekha Bhardwaj”.

Rekha, a classically trained, National Award winning artist, sang her favourite songs and compositions including Tere Ishq Mein from album Ishqa Ishqa, Kabira from Ye Jawani Hai Diwani, Vishal Bhardwaj’s Namak from Omkara, and A. R. Rehman’s Sasural Genda Phool from Delhi6, ending with a bandish in Raag Puriya

In conversation with Dipti Sanzgiri, member of New Acropolis, Rekha explained what each song meant to her and the impact her musical journey has had on her life.  Rekha shared in a simple manner, how music has helped her get closer to herself, recognise her faults and also who she wanted to be – a compassionate human being, also recognising other human beings as fellow travellers, deeply interconnected. Emphasising that life was about learning lessons from our experiences rather than blaming others she quoted  “Our thoughts make our world”.

Through the talk, Rekha  wished for this community of those who love philosophy and culture to grow, which can happen only through each person changing themselves.  Through the practice of working on oneself, just like the riyaaz in music, one can perhaps aspire to try and change oneself for the better.
