On Sunday 29th September, New Acropolis Main centre organised an event exploring Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya ( formerly Prince of Wales Museum) CSMVS’s international exhibition : Ancient Sculptures – India, Egypt, Assyria, Greece & Rome.
The event began with an introduction of symbols as a bridge between the visible and what the senses cannot perceive. Explaining that symbolism is a language of the invisible, Acropolitan instructor Rahil Mehta encouraged the attendees to explore the ancient sculptures with a sense of wonder.
Following the orientation, CSMVS’s lead curator Joyoti Roy guided attendees through the exhibition, unveiling the shared stories and unique perspectives of ancient civilizations. She emphasized the connections between cultures, such as the universal symbolism of the lion representing strength and royalty, and the protective roles of deities like Varaha and Sekhmet.
Such exploration and comparisons of myths and symbols across cultures can help reveal the deep-rooted values and interconnectedness of ancient societies, fostering a greater understanding of our shared heritage.
