On February 27 2021 , Culture Circle presented by New Acropolis hosted photographer, film director, Padma Shri Sooni Taraporevala in a Tete a Tete.
Quoting her everlasting hero, photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson, “To me photography is the simultaneous recognition in the fraction of a second of the significance of an event as well as the precise organisation of forms which gives the event its proper expression.” She shared that through her photography, she searches for beauty in the day to day, preferring to portray real life moments in their authentic form without cropping or touch-ups.
She also described how the beauty and moments of real life are the inspiration for her works. Her directorial debut Little Zizou and Yeh Ballet being based on real life stories that depict grit, determination and the struggle of everyday life.
Sooni is a photographer, filmmaker and wrote the script of films such as Mississippi Masala and the Oscar nominated Salaam Bombay. Her exemplary photographs have won her many accolades including being in the permanent collection of NGMA in New Delhi and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in in New York.
