On  24 July 2026, New Acropolis Pune Branch hosted a talk, “Discovering Life’s Beauty: An Evening of Philosophy & Poetry,” led by Bhargavi Thorve and brought together participants for an evening of reflection, poetry and philosophical exploration.

The speaker shared how in the midst of our busy, uncertain lives, beauty can often become something we pause to admire only for a few fleeting moments, whether a beautiful sunset, a touching piece of music, a painting or a poem. Yet, these moments have the power to touch something deeper within us and poetry can help us discover this inner aspect of beauty and, in doing so, invite us to pause and reflect on what it means to be human.

Through the works of Rabindranath Tagore, Kahlil Gibran, Rumi and William Wordsworth, participants reflected on the enduring philosophical question: What kind of human being creates a beautiful and just world?

The session included readings of Tagore’s Light, Oh Where Is the Light? and The Flower School, amongst other works, followed by small-group reflections on selected poems. Participants then shared their insights with the larger group, creating a rich and meaningful exchange.

Shraddha Shetty, Branch Manager of New Acropolis, brought the session to a close by reflecting on the role of philosophy as a means of bringing beauty into our thoughts, words and actions through practice. The evening was a reminder that philosophy is not merely an academic subject but something to something to live.

To discover beauty is therefore not simply to admire what is beautiful around us, but to cultivate the human being capable of bringing beauty into life.
