On Sunday 15th December 2013, a clean-up drive was organized by New Acropolis Mumbai Branch, at the historical site of Baan Ganga in Mumbai. 23 participants got together to work with the value of act of cleaning.

The site too was an apt location. Legend recounts that Lord Ram stayed here with his followers on their way to Lanka to rescue Sita. Since there was no fresh water to be found in this proximity of the sea, lord Ram shot an arrow into the ground from which emerged the perennial spring that feeds the Baan Ganga tank upto this day.

It is also believed that Lord Ram created a “Shivalingam” made of sand and installed it in the area around the tank which is believed to be the the origin of the Walkeswar temple complex (“Valluka Ishwar” – The God made of sand.)

The activity began with brief introductions and a guided walk, after which the participants got down to the cleaning equipped with brooms, gloves and masks. The event was carried out with enthusiasm!
