On 23 August 2018, the Social Responsibility and Active Ecology departments of New Acropolis (Khar Branch) celebrated the festival of Raksha Bandhan by organizing a gift exchange called “I Am, because We Are” between two schools.

The holiday is traditionally celebrated with sisters tying a thread around a brother’s wrist to symbolize protection, while the brother reciprocates with a commitment of love and guardianship. As part of the New Acropolis celebration, we used the opportunity to celebrate the universal values of brotherhood so necessary in our times today.

The two schools with whom New Acropolis Volunteers interacted include Arya Vidya Mandir (Bandra W), and a group of special needs children from Arushi School (SNDT Juhu). Our member-volunteers guided and assisted the children in hand painting eco-friendly cotton bags, which would be filled with goodies, and offered as a token of fraternity to a child in another school, in order to foster the spirit of generosity.
