Albert Einstein once said “If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music.”

The New Acropolis center in Colaba hosted a talk titled “Philosophy of the Raga” on 25 November 2017. Set in the format of a guided musical appreciation, the talk explored the universal concepts of harmony and rhythm through the various nuances of Indian Classical Music.

Some technical aspects of the traditional art of music were explored through the examples of music set to various Ragas. Alongside, the invisible aspect of music that sometimes touches deeply even the untrained ear was approached with a suggestion of why this phenomenon may be! The tradition of the master – disciple schools of Indian Classical Music and the experience of a live performance v/s a recording were also explored.

It was suggested that Music as any Art is inherently related to a philosophical way of life. The speaker also highlighted specific lessons for our day to day from this art form.
