On the hot Saturday afternoon of 4th May 2019, 31 volunteers participated in a mangrove cleanup and restoration organized by New Acropolis (Main Centre) with support from BMC A Ward.
Volunteers worked in two groups. The first worked on building a check-dam to prevent soil erosion caused by tidal waves. The second team focused on extracting garbage, untangling plastic and fabric that were choking the roots and branches. In three hours volunteers collected approximately 400 kgs of garbage.
This activity was a follow-up of New Acropolis’s ongoing endeavor to promote awareness of the importance of Mangroves in the local community. This was one more, small step of playing our part, to restore Mumbai’s coastline.
