New Acropolis Bandra Branch hosted a talk titled The Stoics: Daring to Choose on 18 April 2026, inviting participants to explore the teachings of Stoic philosophy and their relevance in navigating modern life.

The session focused on the Stoic understanding of freedom of choice—seen as a uniquely human capacity and a powerful tool for inner development. Drawing on the teachings of philosophers such as Marcus Aurelius and Epictetus, the discussion highlighted how true freedom lies not in responding to external circumstances, but in mastering one’s own thoughts, decisions, and actions. As Epictetus observed, “No man is free who is not master of himself.”

Participants reflected on their own nature of everyday decision-making, considering whether choices are guided by a clear sense of what is right, or influenced by comfort, convenience, and habit.

Central to the discussion was the Stoic ideal of virtue, understood as the alignment with one’s true nature. According to the Stoics, to live well is to live virtuously—with integrity, wisdom, and responsibility. Cultivating this alignment was presented as a path toward greater authenticity, clarity, and inner freedom.

The event formed part of New Acropolis’ ongoing efforts to bring classical philosophical ideas into dialogue with contemporary challenges.
