On Saturday, 13 June 2026, New Acropolis Pune Branch hosted a talk titled “Stoic Wisdom – Marcus Aurelius on Serenity” attended by 50 participants.
The speaker introduced the life of philosopher and Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, listed as one of the “Five Good Emperors” of Rome’s Golden Age. Participants learned about his upbringing, his influence from Greek philosophy, and his role as both a ruler and a philosopher.
His daily reflections while on the battlefront though meant to be personal, later became the popular book Meditations. Through selected excerpts from the text, the speaker shared practical lessons from Stoic wisdom on serenity, resilience, and rational living.
The speaker shared Marcus Aurelius’ example of finding time for profound reflection amidst the challenges of leadership and warfare as an example for us in modern times.
The talk also emphasised the importance of applying philosophical ideas in practice in our daily life, reflecting the principle of “Living Philosophy” practiced at New Acropolis.
